Years ago, you would usually be looking for a scope that would run you about half of the cost of what you paid for your gun. This was the best way of measuring to make sure that you are getting a good piece for equivalent quality.
However, with modern machining, you will find that there is a whole lot more to look for whenever you are choosing a rifle scope to suit your needs as well as your budget.
To start off with, you will need to take into account how far you are going to be shooting. For example, someone who lives in an area where they are able to shoot in more open spaces and have longer distance visibility will not need the same type of rifle scope as someone who is surrounded by dense, wooded areas. For obvious reasons, the magnification needed when it comes to the field of view is going to differ greatly. – What do you need to know about magnification vs distance when it comes to scopes?
Of course, anyone has the ability to sell you a rifle scope that is expensive – Here are some tips for you when buying a riflescope. Without the knowledge of what you need to purchase, you could end up spending more than you will need. Once you take into consideration that range that you have for where you live and will be shooting, you are going to have a better idea of what you are going to need for a scope.
Next, you will need to take into consideration how large you would like the object to appear in regards to the space around it for your size of your objective scope lenses. Finally, you will need to take a look at the light levels that you are faced with throughout the year.
If you live in darker areas, you will need more light to help you get a good view. You will find that a good all-around size that can give you what you need for the environment is the 3-9.
It goes without saying that taking a look at a scope when you are in a store is going to be a whole lot different than what you will find if you are outdoors and faced with varying weather conditions.
If at all possible, you will want to take and borrow a scope from someone during the offseason and see if it works for you as you go through the paces. Try this with a couple of different powers as well as different brands and you will get some insight on what might work best for your individual needs.
While you are shopping around for scopes, never be afraid to try one that you are not used to. Sometimes, you could be surprised at the output that you will get from a scope that seems to be out of your realm. Everyone is different and the way that they like to view each shot through the rifle scope is different as well. With research and trial and error, you are going to be able to find the perfect scope to suit your needs.

Why would one need binoculars when you have a decent rifle scope for hunting? Trying to save some money by not spending it on the binoculars but instead on the scope. Thoughts?
Hi Richard,
well, there’s a few good reasons why you want a good set of binoculars when you go hunting.
1 – Binoculars offer a larger field of view at the same mangnification. This way it’s easier to find what you’re looking for when you’re searching for it…
2 – Use binoculars to get a look around and find some target is definitely safer than pointing your gun all over the place as you’re looking through the scope.
